Vietnam
Discover Vietnam, the country that changes every hundred miles
Vietnam doesn't sit still. The north is mountains and mist, the centre is ancient towns and long beaches, the south is rivers, rice paddies and city energy. The food changes every few hundred kilometres too. Few countries pack this much variety into one trip!
Vietnam is for you if:
- You like travelling with no fixed plan: buses, overnight trains, motorbike taxis. Vietnam is one of the easiest countries in the world to move through on a whim.
- History is something you want to feel: here, it's everwhere from the ancient trading port of Hoi An to the tunnels of Cu Chi and the imperial city of Hue
- Food is a serious part of how you travel: banh mi for breakfast, fresh spring rolls by the river at lunch, grilled fish on a plastic stool at night.
Popular Destinations in Vietnam
Vietnam is not a beach holiday. It's a country that moves: from the chaotic warmth of Hanoi to the lantern-lit streets of Hoi An to the fever pitch of Ho Chi Minh City. In between, there's a bay that looks like someone dropped a thousand islands into emerald water, ancient imperial cities, rice paddies that glow in the late afternoon light, and street food that will ruin all other noodles forever.
Hanoi
French colonial streets, ancient pagodas, Hoan Kiem Lake at dusk, and the best bowl of pho you'll have in your life. Pick your start point and get lost exploring!
Halong Bay
Thousands of limestone pillars rising from jade-green water. Best seen slowly, from the deck of a boat overnight.
Phong Nha
World's largest cave system with underground rivers and jungle hikes.
Hoi An
The trading port with great food, excellent tailors and a beach just 15 minutes away.
Ho Chi Minh City
Vietnam's fastest-moving city, with great street food and packed with history.
Mekong Delta
A vast network of rivers, floating markets and rice fields best explored by boat.
Phu Quoc
A large island off the south coast with half its land protected as a national park

Hotels for every budget
Everyone travels their own way, so we’ve curated options to match every style and every budget.
Vietnam is long and thin, almost 1,700 kilometres from top to bottom, and every few hours by train or plane the country feels completely different. The north is cooler, greener, more Chinese in character. The centre is imperial and ancient. The south is tropical, loud and relentlessly alive.
Most people arrive knowing they want to go. They leave knowing they need to come back.
The food is the other thing. Pho at 7am in a plastic chair on a Hanoi pavement. Banh mi from a cart in Hoi An. Fresh spring rolls in the Mekong Delta. White rose dumplings that exist only in Hoi An and nowhere else on earth. Vietnam feeds you in ways you didn't know you needed.
The Classic Itinerary: 12 Days
Day 1-2: Hanoi
The capital, in the north. Think narrow streets, lakes, French colonial architecture and the best street food in the country. Your first real introduction to Vietnam. Give yourself a day to recover from the flight and just walk.
Day 3-5: Ha Long Bay
3 hours from Hanoi. Around 1,600 limestone islands rising from jade-green water. You don't look at it from the shore, you sleep on it, on a small cruise boat. Two nights on the water. It looks exactly like the photos.
Day 6: Hue
Vietnam had emperors. This is where they lived. A walled citadel, royal tombs, a river running through it. One night is enough to get a sense of what it was, and to eat the local noodle soup, which is different from everything else in the country.
Day 7-9: Hoi An
The most beautiful town in Southeast Asia.
A small, perfectly preserved 15th-century trading port. Lanterns, yellow walls, tailors, river sunsets and the best food in Vietnam. You will not want to leave. Three nights here, the one non-negotiable of the whole trip.
Day 10-11: Ho Chi Minh City
Formerly Saigon. Bigger, faster, hotter than Hanoi. More motorbikes than you thought could fit on a single road. The energy is relentless and oddly exciting. Two nights, then you're ready to leave.
Day 12: Mekong Delta
A day trip from Ho Chi Minh.Narrow canals, floating markets, rice paddies, silence. The country you imagined before you arrived. A good last day before the flight home.
